You CAN Walk on Water
The story in Matthew 14:22-32, of Jesus walking on the sea to reach the Apostles in their fishing boat during a storm, was used as the perfect metaphor representing each person’s comfort zone and what initially happens when we first step outside that area we have determined to be our safety zone.
Peter had asked the Lord if he also could walk on water, and Jesus beckoned him to come. Peter stepped out of the comforting safety of his boat and literally began to walk on water; then, he realized the waves were tumultuous and, in that instant, must have thought safety was the boat. It was then he began to sink and cried out to Christ. We all know Jesus lifted him up and said, “Oh, ye of little faith. Why did you doubt?”
In this case, Jesus was not saving Peter from having committed a sin knowingly. He was saving Peter from his own little faith, a faith that would grow by using it daily. The same applies to us; yes, if a little faith causes one to fail in areas requiring trust in God and he or she calls out to Jesus, He will rescue him or her. But, He will NOT save us from committing a sin when we already know it is a sin.
Most Christians stay in their boats, afraid they will sink if they step out onto water; the finite mind dictating it impossible to walk on liquid: we must have solid ground beneath our feet or run the risk of drowning. Solid ground represents the world and what man’s majority says can and cannot be. Obviously, it is far more comfortable to walk with the majority, despite the fact one might know it means certain destruction in the end.
No, it is not comfortable to walk in Christ’s footsteps; but, if our love for God and Christ is genuine, then love compels our total obedience and we will move aside the self/world-mountain, step out of our boat and walk on water: trusting that everything God requires of us IS in our best interest. FAITH. The rewards far exceed anything this world can offer in exchange for disobedience; for what the world offers is temporary. What God offers in exchange for compliance is everlasting life in an Eden paradise, forever in the presence of our Lord and Saviour.
You CAN walk on water! But, what is your particular sea that prevents you from stepping out of your personal boat? Is it the tumultuous waves of the Law of Love and the Ten Statutes that depend on Love; or is it the Sabbath issue; or is it feeding the hungry and housing the homeless and clothing the naked when, perhaps, you have little of your own; or is it struggling with personal finances; or a negative event currently happening in your life and/or the lives of loved ones? To walk on Christ’s body of water is to TRUST that God has everything under control and TRUST that He always keeps His promises to protect and care for you in all of life’s circumstances: IF you do the very few things He requires of you.
You CAN walk on water! You’ve only to choose to do so, then reap blessings now and eternal life later.
